Webcomic Review Roundup 07/19/2007
by Joey Manley
So. What’s been going on over the past couple of weeks. Let’s see.
John Solomon beat the living snot out of a dead horse:
User Friendly is a monstrous carbuncle upon the face of Creation. It is a fat, steaming turd that was dropped bodily into Eden by Satan’s fiery dickhole. It is a gargantuan excrement that caused the flood, the death of the dinosaurs and evil itself. No, no – worse. It is a wart upon the Devil’s own instrument, a bubonic pustule oozing thick, black pus and smelling like a hundred tons of shit in a one-ton shithouse. It is a wrinkled, decaying thing that is such a horror unto all living things that none can stomach even the knowledge of its existence, save for the festering maggots and lice that inhabit it, feeding from it and growing fat upon the slime and bile it produces. … read more
Aarin celebrated six months of writing webcomic reviews with a look at Dark Red:
Anyway, I’m worked up because I see potential, and I do enjoy the comic. You can write dialogue. You have comedy. You have a unique, compelling premise. I just don’t want you to see you shooting yourself in the foot with issue two by dragging out a lack of confrontation or immediate threat. I’m already on the fence. … read more
… and Masters of the Art:
It’s like Chugworth Academy, only funny. … read more
Jeanine reviewed Questionable Content:
You’re definitely given the impression that when you’re not watching the gang is pretty damn boring. Oddly enough, I mean that in a good way. … read more
… and A Pessimistic Sense of Inadequacy:
A solid year old this month, P.S.I. has not only been a consistently well written comic, it has also served as a springboard for some very enjoyable crossover efforts. … read more
Phanatique reviewed Hwei Lin Lim’s Hero (personal note: I recommend checking out this comic, too):
The first chapter takes a while to get into, as it feels a little wordy, but persevere and the rewards are enormous. … read more
Anne Thalheimer was entranced by Bellen!:
It’s partially the use of color that I find entrancing, but also the ways in which the characters relate to the world, where it doesn’t take itself too seriously but it also doesn’t feel too glib. … read more
Jack wasn’t too sure about Blip and Radar:
I’m not too sure about this comic. It’s not crude enough to be offensive, and it’s not nice enough to be family friendly. I would have to say that if you like games and talking about games and joking about games and wearing boxer shorts with games on them, you should at least give Blip and Radar a once over. … read more
And The Ferrett took a look at Jesus and Mo:
Jesus and Mo is simple because it cuts to the heart of religion – finding all those strange little areas where faith doesn’t quite work out. … read more
That’s what I’ve got this time around. I don’t claim that the round-up is comprehensive. If you have written a webcomic review recently, or read a good one, post links in the comments.
