OMFG Blondie gets big makeover!!!

by Eric Millikin

Asbury Park Press reports that the 77-year-old comic strip gets BIG MAKEOVER by actually naming its 51 year-old-artist who is trying to draw like a dead man and not rock the boat or anything:

This year is a milestone for [John Marshall]. Not only will he read “Blondie,” he’ll see his name listed on the strip as lead artist. So will people worldwide. The 77-year-old comic strip runs in more than 2,300 newspapers, including the Asbury Park Press. ….

[Dean Young, the son of "Blondie" creator "Chic" Young] agrees that the strip’s humor relates to the world going on around us and purposefully shies away from politics and controversy.

… Because the strip has such a long tradition, Marshall works within certain parameters in drawing it. He keeps the graphic style established by Jim Raymond, “a really great artist,” who worked on the strip from the 1930s until his death in 1981.

That’s right: Blondie relates to the world around us by purposefully shying away from politics and controversy.

Thank goodness people have long shied away from politics and controversy in popular media. I’d hate for something like universal sufferage to catch us unawares.
