Webcomics Review Roundup 05/17/2007
by Joey Manley
Time again for our weekly look at webcomic reviews from out there and around there and other places, too.
For the record: I’m doing this so that I don’t have to review webcomics myself anymore. Ha! So don’t ask me to review your comic! It’s not that I don’t love you, though! I’m just lazy!
The MySpace Review Fairy (and I love that I get to type that phrase today) took a look at the completed old-school Keenspot offering Boy Meets Boy this week, in a way that was difficult to pull a quote … so I guess you’ll just have to … read the review
At Independent Propaganda, Matt Butcher reviewed several comics from the INKplosion collective, including Monday, Muse, We Watch, Quarantine, Lil’ Schita: A Childhood Memory, and Prince Charming. I don’t usually inject my own opinion into these things, but this site looks like one of the most exciting and promising collectives in a long time, and all of the work I’ve seen so far has blown me away. But don’t take my word for it … read the review
In the Wednesday Webcomic Weview, Jeanine has posted a review of GingerDead:
Written with a dark slant, the comic manages a Gothic edge without the blatant effort of other works. Yes, the title is a bit punny, but the writing is not. Instead, it’s a mixture of haiku, quiet contemplation and gentle humor. … read the full review.
Attila Szegedi totally loves Fish Tank:
The drawing is loveably sketchy (but consistent), and the characters are incredibly well built, complete with their love/hate relationships and plenty of ingenious throwaway jokes and inspired dialogue. … read the full review.
The Ferrett reviewed Lucid-TV, a comic strip about doctors … “evil, talentless, motherfuck[ing]” doctors:
It’s not for everyone, but goddamn it’s good if you’ve just been to surgery and oh fuck your teeth hurt and they probably touched my nads while I was under. … read the full review.
Mr. Myth says, of A Fine Example, that “full comprehension is overrated,” and adds:
It’s A Fine Example. Of what, I’m still not quite sure, but I’m certainly planning on sticking around until I find out.… read the full review
He also reviewed The Prime of Ambition this week:
There are less than 60 pages in the archives, and the strip updates once a week, so perhaps its greatest downside is a tendency towards a slower pace – especially given the early part of the story is focused on character development over action. Whether that is good or bad, of course, depends on the characters, and – fortunately for us – that is where Ambition really shines. … read the full review
That’s all I found this week! If you write webcomic reviews, be sure to send me an email, joeymanley at gmail.com, and let me know — it’s best if you have an RSS feed, so I can go pull them from there once a week. Like I said — lazy!

Matt — as a former longtime contributor to Graphic Smash, you can have a blog author account here at TAC if you want, meaning you could be posting your plugs and other stuff on the actual blog rather than down here in the comments. Pop me an email if you wanna. joeymanley at gmail.
