Life Imprisonment for Online Piracy … Computer Seizures for “Attempted Piracy” …
by Joey Manley
This morning, CNET had to go and remind me that the big media and software companies, and their Bush Administration lapdogs, have completely gone off the deep end when it comes to copyright. I think that, at its normal (pre-Internet piracy hysteria) level of enforcement, copyright protection for creators has done much more good than harm, and I’ve never supported ripping off the creators of new things (whether it’s corporations or college students doing the ripping off). But, wow, at this point, I’m getting ready to join the anti-copyright crowd, just because the absolutists on the copyright side are attempting to do serious harm to the American way of life. Hard to say that with a straight face, but — go read the CNET article — holy hell.

Even if passed most of the scary parts of it would never clear the Supreme Court.
